"Dressing the ship" is when a vessel is decked out with all the flags that it can hold. This is reserved for special occasions.

A nautical flagpole is a pole that resembles a ship's mast and is used to display flags in marine settings. They are often used in marinas, yacht clubs, and seafood restaurants.

John Newton Park, 508 Front Street, is a pocket park under the oak trees situated about midway along the Town Boardwalk off of Front Street. The park is used for various events including the Beaufort Business Association's Rock the Docks Concert Series and Santa's workshop. There are multiple benches in the shade of the oaks which offer a quiet spot for enjoying a break in the downtown area.

Historic Beaufort and Down East Carteret County are known for their history and culture. Beaufort (pronounced "Bo-furt") is the third-oldest Anglo-European town in North Carolina, after Bath and New Bern. It is the site of the North Carolina Maritime Museum, the official repository for all the artifacts discovered on the Queen Anne’s Revenge. Displays include seashells from around the world, with 5,000 specimens from more than 100 countries. At the museum's Watercraft Center, volunteers build and restore boats in an effort to preserve the Crystal Coast's tradition of "backyard boat-building."
