Hyacinthus is a small genus of bulbous herbs, spring-blooming perennials. They are fragrant flowering plants in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae and are commonly called hyacinths.
They bloom in mid-spring at the same time as daffodils and early tulips, and come in a rainbow of colors including white, cream, pink, rose, apricot, lavender, cobalt blue, deep purple and wine red.


The impact of flowers and plants in our lives is abundantly evident in the 2019 Flower Show theme, “Flower Power.” With a nod to the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, the cultural influences of the 1960s blossom throughout the flowery displays.

From the enormous floral sculptural entrance and centerpieces inspired by ’60s pop artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to a hanging meadow made of more than 18,000 cut flowers.

Flower Show guests of all ages can experience The Age of Aquarius by checking out the artistic installation by WISH as it delves into the optic effects of ’60s psychedelia. Renowned designer Nick McCullough will make his Philadelphia Flower Show debut with a garden inspired by the view from the Woodstock stage, enhanced by a haze of purple and a riot of texture. Themes in the arrangement classes include Mood Ring, Lava Lamp,Paisley, Tie Dye, Sit In, and Three Days of Peace & Music. Pressed plant artists will create a Groovy Garden and whip up Flour Power, while the youth class finds inspiration in pop-art, “Pow!”
