2020 FAA2839 ROSE MALLOW *
Key West FL
2020
The pink hibiscus flower, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, was reported to have escaped cultivation on Key West in 1884 and 1913, but records indicate that all plants on the island were either cultivated or persisting from cultivation.
The hibiscus flower is a symbol of beauty, femininity, and young love in Asia and the Pacific Islands. It is also associated with the Hawaiian culture and the Aloha spirit.
Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. The genus is quite large, comprising several hundred species that are native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. Member species are renowned for their large, showy flowers and those species are commonly known simply as "hibiscus", or less widely known as rose mallow.
