Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania has a rich history that dates back to 1741, when Moravian settlers first established a presence in the area
The Moravians were part of the Unitas Fratrum, one of the world's oldest Protestant denominations, which originated in the Czech Republic in 1457. The Moravians' goal was to create a self-sufficient community on the frontier to serve German settlers and Native Americans.
Central Moravian Church is one of several historic places in Bethlehem that visitors can explore on a tour with Historic Bethlehem. The tour also includes the 1741 Gemeinhaus and the 1751 Old Chapel. The 1751 Old Chapel was the second place of worship for the Moravians in Bethlehem, and was used by George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and local Native Americans.
