Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow.

Vittorio Emanuele II Bridge
Located immediately downstream from Ponte Sant'Angelo , Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II connects Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, in the historic centre, to Rione XIV – Borgo and the Vatican .
It was conceived by the architect Ennio De Rossi who designed it in 1886. The contract for its construction was drawn up in 1889, but the works were interrupted; they were resumed only in 1908 by the Allegri company , which built them respecting the original project.
Ponte Vittorio develops over three masonry arches , is 110 meters long and 20 wide. It has a sumptuous sculptural decoration with four marble groups and four Victories that rise on its pillars and on the heads. The groups had to represent "The virtues of King Vittorio Emanuele II" and a public competition was announced for their execution in June 1909.
The Judging Commission commissioned the following sculptors to carry out the works: Elmo Palazzi, Luigi Casadio, Amleto Cataldi and Francesco Pifferetti for the bronze Victories ; Giuseppe Romagnoli for Loyalty to the Statute (after Novara, 1849); Italo Griselli for Military Value (the battle of San Martino, 1859); Giovanni Nicolini for The Political Triumph (proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy, 1861); Cesare Reduzzi for Il Padre della Patria (Vittorio Emanuele in Rome during the flood of 1870).
It was the President of the Commission, Ettore Ferrari , who chose the precise location of the individual sculptural groups on the bridge. However, due to some delays in translating the plaster models into travertine, the statues were placed only in the first months of 1912.
Ponte Vittorio Emanuele II was inaugurated for the first time on 5 June 1911 , on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition which was held that year and the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy . It is no coincidence, in fact, that it was named after the first King of Italy. The second inauguration took place after the placement of the travertine groups, on April 28, 1912 .
Between 1889 and 1911, a temporary bridge made up of iron beams, Ponte degli Alari , was added to it, later demolished when Ponte Vittorio was opened.
