The ice cream cone became popular at the 1904 World's Fair, where vendors called it a "cornucopia". The cone's popularity led to the development of different types of cones, including waffle, sugar, and wafer.
The history of rainbow sprinkles on ice cream is complex and includes the origins of sprinkles, the name "jimmies", and the use of sprinkles as a way for manufacturers to stay in business
Sprinkle origins
The origins of sprinkles are unclear, but there are a few theories. Some say the French invented sprinkles in the 18th century and called them nonpareils. Others say the Dutch invented sprinkles in 1936, and named them hagelslag after the Dutch word for hail.
Jimmies
The term "jimmies" is used in New England to refer to chocolate sprinkles on ice cream. The origin of the term is unclear, but some say it may have come from the Jimmy Fund, a charity founded by Dr. Sidney Farber, a cancer researcher. However, other evidence suggests that the term "jimmies" predates the Jimmy Fund.
